The City of Subotica is hosting the 51st International Conference “WASTE WATER, MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE AND HAZARDOUS WASTE” in Hotel Patria for the third time from June 14th to June 16th, 2022. It was organized by the Association for Water Technology and Sanitary Engineering (further in the text: UTVSI), Waterworks and Sewerage Association of Serbia and the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy.
Mr Predrag Bogdanovic, President of the Board of Directors and President of the Association, Mr Nebojša Jakovljevic, President of the Assembly of the Waterworks and Sewerage Association of Serbia, Mr Imre Kern, Deputy Mayor of Subotica, and Mr Jaksa Robert, State Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, gave speeches welcoming those present in the Great Hall of the City Hall at the opening ceremony. The history of the development of the city of Subotica, as well as the Palic and Ludas lakes, was presented by Zika Reh, head of the Department for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of Local Self-Government.
Whereas the main topic of lectures and poster sections on the first day was wastewater, great deal of attention on the second day was paid to research and scientific works relating to municipal solid waste and hazardous waste.
The theory-based part of the conference was followed by a practical part when the participants could visit the Unsanitary Landfill “Aleksandrovačka Bara“, the Regional Sanitary Landfill in Bikovo and the wastewater treatment plant in Subotica as a professional excursion.
