Ludas Environmental Education Camp 2021 is created in cooperation with the Association of Nature Lovers Riparia and PE Palic – Ludas. The camp itself is located at the Ludas visitor centre. Yet, other research activities are also being carried out in the areas of Landscapes of exceptional features – Subotica sandstone, Special Nature Reserve Selevenj heath /Selevenjske pustare, Palic Nature Park and Lake Ludas Special Nature Reserve.
The camp is open from July 18th 2021 until August 29th 2021, i.e. 6 weeks. More than 90 people are expected to attend. Participants sleep in tents or under the roofed facility of the visitor centre during their stay in the camp.
Camp activities start every day early in the morning. The participants of the camp go to the bird banding facility, where they participate in the marking of birds together with licensed ornithologists. The birds are caught with a special net. After assessing their condition, each bird receives a ring, gets registered, and data about birds are kept. This is an extremely important procedure for the research of birds since it is based on the individual marking of birds. We get significant data about the banded birds. Among other things, we get to know the migration line of a specific bird species, the space where they feed, rest, their life cycle, as well as the population change of certain bird species. This is significant information for the field of environmental protection. It helps us get closer to the most spectacular natural phenomenon in a natural way, i.e. getting to know the migration of birds.
After that, the participants go to the Visitor Center, where they attend lectures and screenings of films about the protection of biodiversity being the main topic. The marking of birds continues from late afternoon to evening.
Participants can even master fishing tricks in one afternoon with the help of biologists in the camp.
Furthermore, children have the opportunity to meet other researchers and join them in their activities. As long as the camp is open, experts of various expertises will be engaged as mentors. In addition to lectures, the program includes several practical classes, with various topics, such as reviewing and conserving the population of marsh turtles in the lakes and bird research.
