“Building a shared future for all life” is the International Day for Biological Diversity (Biodiversity) theme in 2022. It was chosen to continue building momentum and support for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework at the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15). The United Nations General Assembly designated May 22nd as International Biodiversity Day in December 2000. International Biodiversity Day aims to raise awareness about the environment and all species that live on this planet.
Biodiversity is a broad phrase that refers to the variety and variability of life on Earth. It has long been apparent that ecological world balance is necessary for survival. However, humans, considered the most evolving species on the planet, tend to overlook the importance of that balance in nature. Under the guise of development or progress, some activities of men end up destroying biodiversity.
This day is all-important in today’s world, considering the way of life we lead. It is biodiversity that not only provides a home for many of the world’s species but also serves as a source of food, water and other resources that we rely on for all species to thrive. Therefore, understanding the value of biodiversity and acknowledging the problems that threaten it are more significant now than ever. It’s time for people to take notice and contribute to making the Earth a welcoming habitat for all life forms.
Bringing the Ecolacus project to an end, the goal of which is the conservation and protection of the Lake Palic and Ludas biodiversity is our contribution for this year.
